SUGAR COOKIE RECIPE

Ingredients:
1 cup softened unsalted butter (2 sticks)
1 cup granulated sugar
1 egg
1 1⁄2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp salt
3 cups all-purpose flour

Instructions:
1. Mix together butter and sugar. Mix until creamy. (A stand mixer is best.)
2. Add egg, salt, and extract. Mix until creamy.
3. Add flour, 1 cup at a time. Mix until it is all combined and has a doughy texture.
4. Chill dough for at least 30 minutes.
5. When dough is chilled (will have a "matte" finish, does not look greasy), place some flour on countertop or work space (to
prevent dough sticking to countertop, as it will deform or smudge the cookie form when picking up to place onto baking sheet), then place dough on top and roll to your preferred thickness. Do not be afraid to use "too much" flour.
*Our recommended thickness for our cookie cutters is 1/4" - 1/2" thick, depending on how thick you want your detailed cookies (if using detailed cookie cutters) to imprint in the dough. (Light impression, use 1/4" thick; Deep impression, use 3/8' to 1/2" thick.)
6. Lightly flour top of rolled dough. Then flour your cookie cutter before pressing into the dough to cut out. Flour a thin metal spatula on both sides before sliding under the cut-out cookie (sliding along the countertop will also grab some of the butter from the dough, allowing the cookie cut-out to slide off more easily) and transferring to the baking sheet. This will help lessen the chances of the cookie becoming deformed or smudged.
7. Place them on a baking sheet. You may use parchment paper on the baking sheet if you'd prefer.
8. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes (Ovens may vary.). Take out of oven just before or right as the cookies begin to turn brown.
9. Using a clean metal spatula, remove cookies from baking sheet, and place on a cooling rack for a few hours before decorating.
Makes approximately 2 bakers dozen cookies at 3 1/2" size. Recipe can be doubled if needed.
